This Scorpion Cocktail is sometimes served in a Scorpion Bowl, once you taste how delicious it is, you'll know why!  A fun tropical tiki cocktail that makes you feel like you're sitting on a tropical beach, you can almost feel the breeze!

    Scorpion Bowl

Well, it's been a few days since my last tiki cocktail, I didn't want you to stumble around trying to think of what to make next.  If you happened to have missed last week's tropical experience, be sure and check out my Mai Tai and an oh-so-good Frozen Mango Daiquiri.

I don't know about you, but I am completely enjoying this tiki experience, since we won't be going anywhere tropical anytime soon, it's my own little mini cocktail staycation.

Today I am back with the Scorpion Cocktail!   Have you heard of it?  I hadn't until I started researching tiki cocktails.  Of course it was created by Trader Vic and was designed to be served in a bowl called a Scorpion Bowl.

I didn't have a bowl, but gosh I want one, look at this one - Scorpion Bowl - isn't it fun?  Trader Vic has an updated individual recipe in the 1972 version of his book and that is the one I am using.

Photo showing the ingredients in a scorpion cocktail, rum, orgeat syrup, orange juice, lemon juice, and brandy.

    Ingredients in a Scorpion Cocktail

You only need five ingredients to make this delicious rum and brandy cocktail!

Rum - use a light rum.

    Brandy.

Orgeat syrup - you can buy this or make your own Homemade Orgeat Syrup.

    Orange juice.

    Lemon Juice - fresh squeezed.

    Ice - not pictured.

Blender with cocktail ingredients and ice.

How to Make this Fun Brandy Cocktail!

This cocktail is super easy to make, you basically put all the ingredients in a blender and add ice and blend until smooth!   So, just add the rum, brandy, lemon, juice , orgeat syrup, and orange juice to your favorite blender.  Add a cup of ice and blend until it's just how you like it!

In the Trader Vic book, he suggests serving it in a grapefruit supreme glass, which is almost impossible to find.  So, I used a stemless wine glass.  He also suggests garnishing with a gardenia.  Again, a little hard to find, though I do have plenty of dried orchid flowers.  Instead, I choose a classic cocktail umbrella.

Because every drink is more fun with a cocktail umbrella, don't you think?

    Yummy Rum Cocktail

Oh my, this was yummy!  I can see why you'd want a bowl of this.  I am definitely going to be on the lookout for a Scorpion Bowl, wouldn't it be so fun if I could find a vintage one to go with all my other vintage tiki stuff from my grandmother?!

Don't you love those tiki salt and pepper shakers behind my cocktail?  And, it's perfect timing that my orchid is still blooming, it's been blooming since May!

You definitely need to make this.  I love the combination of rum and brandy and will be looking for some more cocktails with that combination!

As a matter of fact, I don't have that many brandy cocktails!  That might be my next adventure, work my way through some, what do you think?

I do have some fun ways to use brandy:

Brandied Cranberries - I make a jar of these every Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Everyone loves them and they are so easy!

DIY Ginger Liqueur - oh my this is so delicious and it makes and amazing Christmas gift (or anytime gift) for your cocktail loving friends.

Winter Solstice Brew - the most popular post on my blog and for a good reason!   Again, an amazing Christmas gift (or anytime!)

East Wing Martini - a gorgeous martini featuring cherry brandy.  So good.

For classic 1970s you can't beat a Brandy Alexander. The Grasshopper was another lurid offering.
