Did you know you can freeze kiwi fruit? You can and it's so easy, they are perfect for smoothies!

Slices of kiwi on a baking sheet

If you didn't know that you could freeze kiwifruit, be prepared to be amazed, thrilled, and filled with ideas. I'm sure it's not just me that gets excited when they find something new to freeze!

Do you use your freezer to its fullest potential? I have been really working on trying to have a freezer ready for easy meals, meal prep, and overstock so there are fewer trips to the grocery store.

In addition to freezing herbs, like sage, I started freezing lots of fruits and vegetables. I especially like to have frozen fruit on hand for smoothies.

When I got a big bag of organic kiwi, I immediately thought about freezing it.  I wasn't sure if you could.  I always peel the kiwi because I didn't even know you could eat the skin!

    Instructions for freezing kiwi.

After googling, I found that you could freeze kiwi!  You can freeze it in a simple syrup, kind of like a canning solution.  Or even easier, you can slice it into pretty little rounds and freeze it!

I slice the kiwi and lay them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze until solid, about 4-6 hours, and then transfer them to a Ziploc bag!

As a bonus, when you use them in smoothies, you don't even notice the skin!  By using the skin, you actually triple the fiber of the kiwi and preserve most of the vitamin c!

Some recipe ideas for frozen kiwi.

You can add frozen kiwi to any smoothie, use it in fruit salads, top yogurt with it, use it in cocktails, and it makes a great sorbet!

What a great idea! I've been freezing my extremely ripe bananas (peeled), one banana each in a sandwich bag, for smoothies for a long time. I'm looking forward to trying kiwis! Thanks!

This is a very timely post for me - got a bunch of kiwis from Costco and I've been wondering what to do with them. Leave on the skins? This part could change my life - or at least my view of kiwis. Hmmm.

I didn't know you could freeze kiwi. They never seem to last more than 12 minutes around here anyway.

I went through a smoothie phase. My favorite was a handful of spinach, banana, almond butter, and coconut water. Maybe some frozen pineapple and/or mango. Anyway, this is such a great idea! It must really save time to leave the skin on, and the extra fiber is always nice. 🙂
