This Blueberry Frozen Yogurt is rich and creamy and bursting with blueberry flavors!    It's healthy and so easy to make!  Make it with fresh blueberries in the summer and with frozen all year round!   Spoon it into popsicle molds for healthy frozen treats!

    Blueberry Recipes

I originally shared this blueberry frozen yogurt recipe back in July of 2008!  Since that time, we make it every summer and usually several times through the year using frozen blueberries.  I can't believe that I haven't updated this post in all these years.

We have 3 blueberry bushes in our backyard, some years they do great and some years I think the birds and the squirrels get to most of them.

This year looks to be a bumper crop, so we will have plenty of this blueberry frozen yogurt, plus some of other favorite blueberry recipes - Blueberry Elderflower Martini, Kale Blueberry Salad, and Blueberry Almond Smoothies!

Ingredients in this Easy Frozen Yogurt

Let's talk about the list of ingredients in this frozen yogurt - or as I like to call it "Why You Should Make Homemade Frozen Yogurt."

I did a quick Google search and pulled up ingredients in a commercial frozen yogurt - Pasteurized and Cultured Skim Milk, Sugar, Corn Syrup, Whey, Nonfat Dry Milk, Natural and Artificial Vanilla Flavors, Milk Protein Isolate, Cellulose Gum, Guar Gum, Carrageenan, Modified Food Starch, Pectin, Annatto Extract (for color).   What???

Ingredients in this homemade frozen yogurt - yogurt, sugar, blueberries, Kirsch and lemon juice.   Much better!

Yogurt - the yogurt is actually homemade yogurt, made from using an organic yogurt as a starter.   (Will be posting about this next week.)

    Sugar - raw sugar.

Kirsch - cherry brandy.  This is optional, but it keeps the yogurt from freezing so hard.   Can substitute other types of alcohol, Vanilla Vodka is a favorite because it goes with almost anything.

    Lemon juice - fresh squeezed.

Step by Step Guide to Making Homemade Frozen Yogurt

Once you see how easy it is to make your own homemade frozen yogurt, you'll never buy store bought again!

Step 1 - place blueberries, yogurt and sugar in a blender or food processor - I use a Vitamix.

Step 2 - process in the blender until smooth.

Step 3 - strain mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove seeds.  If you use a food processor, you will have more seeds, my Vitamix breaks up most of them.   Stir in the lemon juice and the Kirsch.  Chill in the fridge for about an hour.

Step 4 - process in your ice cream maker - I use a Cuisinart and love it!

The Best Homemade Blueberry Frozen Yogurt

This is sooo good!  It is rich and creamy and just bursting with blueberries!  Just look at that gorgeous color - no artificial colors needed with this frozen yogurt!

I found this recipe in David Lebovitz's The Perfect Scoop.  I think I spent most of 2008 and 2009 working my way through that book, so I'll be sure and try and get those posts updated!   Frozen Treats are my favorite desserts!

lol, you're as articulate as I am! This looks beautiful and I'm sure getting the berries from your backyard made it that much more satisfying. Some jerky squirrel beat me to the punch 😮
