No need to get out the grill when you can make these sweet and spicy bbq chicken drumsticks in the oven!  These easy baked chicken legs take only about 10 minutes of prep time and only 5 ingredients!

White platter with 5 chicken drumsticks coated in a barbecue sauce.

Now, I love grilled chicken as much as anybody, but there are sometimes when you don't feel like messing with the grill.

Even though I have a gas grill and there isn't much messing to do, there is something so satisfying about yummy bbq chicken legs that you made oh so easily in your oven!

These sweet and spicy bbq chicken drumsticks only take about 10 minutes of prep work, have only 5 ingredients and are delicious!

You just tweak some store bought barbecue sauce with some tasty additions, brush on the chicken legs and bake them.

Possibly the easiest recipe on my blog and that is saying something for someone who's mantra is "easy simple recipes."

Orange marmalade, garlic, spicy brown mustard, barbecue sauce, and chicken legs.

    Ingredients

Orange Marmalade - brings a sweet tartness to the sauce.

Garlic - because I add garlic to everything.

Spicy Brown Mustard - could also use Dijon mustard or plain yellow mustard. It adds a little kick and a little heat.

Barbecue Sauce - use your favorite store bought or homemade.

Chicken Legs - don't you just love how inexpensive chicken legs are? You could use thighs for this, but they tend to release a little too much fat.

    Instructions

    Preheat oven to 400.

Mince garlic and combine the garlic, orange marmalade, spicy brown mustard, and barbecue sauce in a small bowl.

Reserve ¼ cup to drizzle on the legs when they come out of the oven.

Brush the chicken legs with half of the barbecue sauce.

Bake in the oven for 20 minutes.

Turn them, brush the other side with the rest of the sauce and bake for 20 more minutes.

Remove chicken from the oven when done baking, the chicken legs should be at 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Expert Tip: I turned on my convection for the final 20 minutes of baking to brown the chicken legs a bit more. If you'd like you can remove them from the parchment paper, place them on a broiling pan and broil for 2-3 minutes if you want more color.

Drizzle with the reserved barbecue sauce before serving.

    These were so good.

If you've wondered about baking barbecued chicken legs in the oven, just do it!! They are so easy and so delicious!

They came out sweet and spicy and so juicy!

Sweet and Sticky Oven Baked BBQ Chicken Drumsticks

No need for a grill when you can make this easy and delicious chicken legs in your oven! A few tweaks to store bought bbq sauce and you are set!

    Cuisine American
    Prep Time 5 minutes minutes
    Cook Time 40 minutes minutes
    Total Time 45 minutes minutes
    Servings 4
    Calories 455kcal

    Ingredients

    • 2 lbs chicken legs
    • 1 cup barbecue sauce
    • ¼ cup orange marmalade
    • 3 cloves garlic minced
    • 1 tbsp spicy brown mustard

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 400.
    • Combine barbecue sauce, marmalade, garlic and mustard in a small bowl. Reserve ¼ cup.
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread out the chicken legs. Brush the tops with half of the barbecue sauce.
    • Bake for 20 minutes.
    • Turn legs over and brush the other side with the rest of the sauce. If you have a convection oven, you can turn it on now.
    • Bake for 20 more minutes or until thermometer inserted in thickest part of the leg reads 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Drizzle with the remaining sauce.

    Notes

Note - I gave a weight for the chicken legs, but really it depends on how many each person will eat.  In this case I used 10 chicken legs.
To brown the legs a bit more, I turned on my convection oven for the second half of the baking.  If you don't have a convection oven and want to brown the legs more, you could place them under the broiler, but remove the parchment paper first!
