    Mango Smoothie

Don't you love it when you favorite grocery store has one of your favorite foods on sale?!  Imagine my delight when our local Earth Fare had organic mangoes 5 for $5.00!  So, I bought five of course!  I brought them home and remembered that I had bookmarked this Healthy Smoothie from Cooking Light.   I had bookmarked it because it sounded delicious, but also because it used fresh turmeric.

With the rest of the mangoes, I planned on making Mango Marmalade, this Avocado-Mango Salad and one of my most popular mango recipes - Mango Vinegar!

Turmeric Mango Smoothie - mangoes, bananas, yogurt, turmeric!

    Healthy Benefits of Turmeric

My husband has been reading up on all the health benefits of turmeric and finely scored some fresh turmeric and the market.  It looks so much like ginger, only orange!  I keep it in the freezer, like I do ginger.  It's so easy to grate it when it's frozen using a microplane!  If you can't find fresh turmeric you can substitute 1 teaspoon of dried turmeric for 1 tablespoon of fresh.

Turmeric might help in the prevention of alzheimers, cancer and heart disease.  It's also a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.

This was so delicious!  How delicious?  Well, so delicious that we had it five times!!!  Yep, I used every single mango for this smoothie.  The original recipe calls for using two mangoes, but it serves 4.  Since it was just us two, I used a one mango/one banana ratio which is slightly different than the original recipe.  Isn't it wonderful when something good for you taste so good and feels like a dessert treat!  This is filled with good things:  mangoes, bananas, yogurt and turmeric!

This is so easy, just place all the ingredients in your blender of choice, mine is a Vitamix, process and enjoy!  We loved it served with cute paper straws!

Mango and turmeric sounds like a great combination of flavours. I will have to give this a try, using soy yoghurt - or maybe coconut yoghurt for some more tropical vibes?! 🙂

Thank you for sharing the recipe. I also read a article about how healthy tumeric is (eat ground tumeric can heal stomach pain), but I don't like the taste much... Gonna try this smoothie ^^

Hmmmm, I'd take some convincing. Not a mango or turmeric fan. Pretty colour though.
