A book review of I'm Talking as Fast as I Can by Lauren Graham.

The problem? The only time we get out the cat carriers are when the cats are going to the vet. We used to have to be really quiet when we got them out because if Smudge would hear even the slightest door rattle, he would dash away and hide. Since this was usually about 20 minutes before I needed to be at the vet this was a problem. This time, I decided to put the carriers out in the living room about a week before the vets visit, thinking this would take away all their bad vibes.

It seemed to be working. They checked them out. Didn't seem too freaked out. Smelled them, rubbed on them and Coco even slept in it for a couple of days.

Here Coco is minding her own business. Enjoying a little time in the carrier. Until.... can you spot a Luxie kitty sneaking up behind?

I was busy patting myself on the back for getting them used to the carriers, thinking I had this whole thing figured out. Then came the morning of the vet's visit. I scheduled their appointments together, I put one carrier in one room and one carrier in another room, so they wouldn't catch on. Guess what? It made no difference whatsoever. As soon as I picked up Luxie and started heading for carrier, she turned into a hellcat. I didn't think I was going to get her in it. I finally managed to get her in with minor blood shed. Coco was a little easier because she was sleeping when I picked her up!
For my artsy photo I used the Topaz labs plugin.

Have you discovered drinking vinegars? They are healthy and delicious and this strawberry lime shrub would be the perfect shrub drink to start with!

You might be asking yourself, "What is a drinking shrub or a drinking vinegar?" They are not be confused with shrubbery found in your yard - and bonus points to you if you are saying "shrubbery" with a Monty Python-ish accent! Drinking shrubs are a delicious old fashioned drink. They are made up of fruit, maybe herbs and spices, sugar and vinegar. They are also sometimes called drinking vinegar. A couple of weeks ago I made a Blueberry Shrub. I loved it so much that when strawberries went on sale this week, I knew I would be making a strawberry shrub!

This Roasted Asparagus and Prosciutto Bowl is a delicious grain bowl! Crisp prosciutto and tender asparagus over farro are topped with a poached egg for this light and so flavorful meal! Runny egg yolks win every time!

What's your favorite thing about spring? Mine is asparagus! When those first tender stalks start appearing at the grocery store and farmer's market, I grab them up.
It's so sad to think that I grew up hating asparagus. But it's no wonder, the only asparagus I ever had was from a can!
Now, I can't get enough of fresh asparagus. I especially love the slender stalks, so slender they almost don't even need cooking.
When you go grocery shopping, by enough asparagus to make this grain bowl and this Roasted Cod with Asparagus and Jalapeño Dressing, it is so good!
If you can only find the thicker stalked asparagus, you can still try the other two recipes, but this Quick Pickled Asparagus makes the most amazing pickles!

Looking for an easy Affogato recipe? Affogato with Coffee Liqueur is a new favorite! It's an after dinner coffee, dessert and cocktail all in one!

I feel like I have been living under a rock. Apparently there was this simply amazing and oh so simple dessert floating around that I had no idea even existed. Affogato, which means drowned is just that - it is vanilla ice cream or gelato that you drown in espresso. I was reading A Suitcase and Spatula, when I stumbled upon affogato! How could there be something so simple and so wonderful and I had never had it. I love espresso. I love vanilla ice cream. I love dark chocolate. I love desserts that come together in literally a matter of minutes. The hardest part of this dessert is making the espresso - and if I must confess I just used really, really strong coffee.

No need to make a mess frying! These Oven Baked Garlic Fries come out so crispy. Oven Fries are the only way I make French Fries now!

When my girls were little, we used to have homemade baked French fries all the time. For some reason, I haven't made them in ages. When I used some leftover rotisserie chicken to make a barbecued chicken sandwich, fries just sounded like the perfect accompaniment. I wanted something a little more than just plain fries. We had some garlic fries at a local restaurant that were to die for.
